Hi, I sing at care homes for free as music is great for dementia. I use an MP3 for backing music. I have to press it it to stop music? Is there a foot switch out there to pause it please?

Most (all?) MP3 players have a "pause" button to stop/resume playing.

Never saw a footswitch controllable one, although of course it´s technically doable.
Beyond my expertise but somebody else else might.

IF it has a mechanical button doing so, maybe you can add a connector to front or back panel in parallel with it to remotely push it.
You´ll need a momentary footswitch and most probably use shielded wire to avoid external interference triggering it at random or include a small relay inside the player so footswitch only controls the relay coil.
Doable but requires Player "brain surgery", some experience modding things, good sight and manual dexterity.

Why not use an MP3 player with a hand held remote control?
