Those inputs all go directly into the 144 pin IC. If the 4552 is not actually at fault and it is caused by clock, etc, then I'd assume that IC would be the culprit, and I doubt that's replaceable. I'll have to mess around a bit more later on.

Looks like the 4552 rabbit hole was a red herring. Pulled one from a good BF-3 and got the same results. Seems like the distortion is coming from the audio serial data input and output lines, which go directly into the 144 pin microcontroller. Not sure if those are pre-programmed or even available for purchase. I'm pretty sure I have the 3.3V at the MC, but I'll check for broken traces anyway. I assume the audio serial data line is the post-effect line?
