Glen-
Members are correct-
I experienced same meter abnormalities w/ B&K 550 meter... Realized it had to do w/ static electricity- tried installing anti stat adhesive film to inside of plastic lens...
That worked, but the view was opaque due to static mat lens mat'l... fail-
So, scrapped static membrane and decided to keep my mits off the lens... It worked for me... jus' sayin
Next,
Good write -up- pertaining to some of your history... Quote-
"BUT, I'd sure like to make it right as the tester is in excellent shape otherwise."
Indeed -
That Hickock 6000 of yours is a Genie- If I'd have seen it for sale, wud have snatched it up post haste!
Did research before landing on B&K testers... started off w/ B&K 707 in exemplary outer condition from eBay- needing internal overhaul after years of neglect...
Cleaned up the rotary and push button switches (HCL concentrate involved) - replaced caps- all good... It's pretty- pic below
Then acquired land fill headed B&K 550- of topic... case was nasty- pic above. Rescued, then researched the model...
Turns out this 1957 model was one of B&K's last that tested all tubes on michromo (gain) scale for mutual conductance- Like your Hickok (I think), Glen
There were many tubes introduced after '57... especially tubes that populate current Hi-End Amplifier hybrid designs- most are Push Pull, best I gather... (Designs are rather secretive, whether PP or Single Ended)
Regardless either design- It's important to be able to measure and match tubes at michromo's for balance, whether in P-P single channel design or SE between channels.
And thats where the Expansion modules 610 and 615 are especially useful- They enable measure and match of post '57 tube designs... which are popular today... and have- IMO resurrected the tube industry-
'This old stuff!...
Love it, Love it, I LOVE it!! Thank you Molly Shannon
Jim
ps.
I'm being told here I cant load the '707 pic, as promised... sorry music guys and gals
