i wouldn't bother,a real cathode ray oscilloscope used costs less than 100 dollars and its made for the purpose.

Well, it IS a very inexpensive place to start for someone who doesn't have a scope. I know there are a lot of very low cost scope kits or USB-based instruments that don't require assembly out there. Having lived in Los Angeles all my life, I've had access to terrific sources over the years like the TRW Radio Amateur Technical Swap Meet, C & H Sales, Apex, and other electronic surplus outlets before the days of ebay. Pennies on the dollar for newly-decommissioned Tektronix 7000 series scopes and such. While I've had to resort to small Sony/Tek 326 scopes for portable use, I've been spoiled by large full-feature bench scopes for decades.

I'm not sure I'd trust that inexpensive X100 scope being used on the plates of tubes. The spec does state safe up to 2000VDC, though I've seen most X100 scope probes like that only good up to 500VDC or less. I trust the Tek P6009's for HV work, though not on the plates of output tubes. I'm not used to an instrument that's small enough for the scope probe cable to move it around in use.

It's certainly cheap enough to try out, and to lead you onto a better quality instrument if that's where you're headed. Amazing what can be found for low $$$ these days!

Were I younger, for 20 bucks, I would have got one just to fool with. it may or may not be something actually practical and useful, but it isn;t like buying a $500 thing.

I wasn't expecting much, but as something that fit into my small zippered tool kit, I used it all the time. You never know until you try something.
