Have you had the chance to get inside one of these yet? I'm having a mains fuse issue, haven't tracked it down yet.
Also, do you by chance go to Hamvention in Dayton, OH?
I was there last year, def not my scene (the radio stuff) but sold a ton of junk off. Planning to make it back this year too.
By mains fuse issues, do you mean the fuse blows everytime at power up?
Steve
yeah, that's it.
couldn't find anything immediately noticable, so i'm thinking about pulling the outputs and seeing if that changes anything. unfortunately my solder sucker just broke so i've gotta get that sorted.
it calls for a fast acting fuse and the original was a ceramic, but usually i find slo blow types as main fuses.
Try isolating the power transformer secondary leads, see if it's a low voltage supply issue or high voltage supply issue or sometimes, the power transformer can short causing fuses to blow.
i checked between the primary and secondary leads and didn't find any continuity, so that's good i guess. i haven't really had to do any work with transformers yet, so i'm kinda flying blind here. solid state gear isn't really my favorite to work on, but i like learning!
i'll do some digging around and see. i don't have the internet at home, so i've just been bumming wifi in town or using my friends connection which makes things much more difficult!
Fixed some guys JCM800 and was able to afford a desoldering iron for this job. Tested the rectifiers and all output transistors, found a bad transistor (q10). Unfortunately the guy can't afford what I'm charging to fix it!
Thanks a ton for the help, I really do appreciate it.
