I was wondering if anyone has a schematic for an audio interface for apple mobile device? something along the lines of an ik media iRig or a peavey LiNK. I'd like to give amplitude and ampkit a try on my ipod touch but i don't want to buy an interface if i'm gonna use it for 2 seconds and decide i don't like it, plus i can't imagine there's much to either of those other than like 2 jacks and a single 1/8th inch plug. I'd just wing it and try to guess how its wired but id hate to wire something wrong and wreck my ipod. I was thinking about it and wouldn't that 1/8th plug have to be something with more connectors than a normal stereo, since its got to receive a signal and send it at the same time? I'm not sure, so i figured i'd ask and see if anyone has built their own interface yet and would be willing to provide a schematic. Thanks...

P.S. I've been watching the live coverage of namm 2012 and its amazing how many interfaces there are being made for apple mobile devices. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes the amateur/hobbyist part of the guitar/recording crowd to start building their own interfaces and clones and such. I wouldn't think it'd be that hard as long as the app software runs on its own and doesn't depend on firmware or anything on the board.

gives the general idea. The I-devices have a fourth contact in the headphone jack intended for a headset with built-in mic, and that's the audio input. Simples.

It may well be low impedance with phantom power, for an electret capsule mic, so you may have to build a buffer of some sort. You might feel, as many do, that this isn't worth the hassle when you can get the IRig interface for $27 at Amazon.

I posted about this a while back.

The I-Devices have a fourth contact in their headphone jack, meant for a headset with built-in mic. This is where you feed in your audio. So, you can make your own interface using an AV cable intended to connect some brands of camcorder to a TV.

The mic input may well be the usual thing for an electret capsule mic. Low impedance with 1.5-3V phantom power. So you may need to build some sort of buffer/impedance converter thing.

Alright thanks... That looks like that would do it, but for the price of all those cables and adapters i could just get an iRig. Does anyone have a schematic so i could make one of these without buying all that stuff? My other reason i wanted to make my own was so i could avoid using adapters as i wanted to have a 1/4 female on the guitar in and 1/4th out for the lin out and then that 1/8th in for the idevice. Does anyone know if the iRig and LiNK are the same wiring/work the same?
