Turning off the power switch should do the same as disconnecting it.

Wow,
Got one of these with a shorted power trans primary.
Seems to be pretty common, I've found several instances of people having this problem on the webz.
Hopefully for the customer it's still under warranty or maybe they'll cut him a break.

FWIW *all* original PT are poorly built.
I know one official service guy which had 13 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! new (warranty repair) amps waiting .... and next week he had 19 !!!!!
After more than a month delay from Egnater swearing that "new ones were on the way" he was sent more of the same, but look at this: with clumsily drilled (not punched at a metal shop, just drilled in a bench drill press by hand) holes in the metal covers for ventilation, and a 12V PC type fan, to cool them, with instructions on how to feed that fan from rectified filament voltage.
As klunky and improvised solution as can be!!!!
Similar to some plane company answering to planes crashing by supplying each passenger with a parachute !!!!!Juan Manuel Fahey

In the news: Bruce Egnater just joined The Amp Garage a day or 2 back. Hasn't got much to say so far. Must be busy looking for working PT's. Just flogging his amp building "school." It don't cost nothin' to look:
