  • Lowrey Berkshire (Model S)

Anyone have schematics for the 1955 Lowrey Model S (Berkshire).

This was a $15 thrift store find. It was beat to heck and an inch of dust on it, but I figured for $15, those two Jensen P10Q speakers and all those tubes, alone , was worth it. Wasn't about to try to restore it, with it having about 100 tubes (12AU7, 6SL7, 12AV6, 6SN7, etc.), and broken keys, switches and pedals. I even found 5 "Made in Great Britain" 12AX7's in it, labelled "Webcor". Haven't cleaned or tested any of the tubes yet.

Popped the speakers out, and they dusted off very nicely. I'd say they look near-mint. The paper still taught and thumpy, and still black as original. Hooked them up to a Blues Jr. and they sound great.

Anyway, that amp section looks intriguing. A couple of coke-bottle 6L6's, and a few other tubes. Big iron, apparently it has a power transformer, a filament transformer and an output transformer.

Just wondering what that thing could be used for?

The rest of it went away.

Maybe I should contact Lowrey? The copy of the original owner's manual states that for $2.00, "Schematic diagrams and circuit descriptions will be furnished to owners upon request".

    Thanks,

    Brad1

The Lowrey Co. that built that has been gone for a long time. A Japanese co took the name and has been building for a number of years now but has no connection to the original. ORGAN SERVICE Co. in Indiana bought up and has been selling the parts and manuals, etc.. The only copy of the schematics I have are in a book called a tube omnibus which is a combination of many of their old tube units. The "S" takes about 8 double sided pages. If there is a certain section you're interested in let me know. I wasn't quite sure if you junked the organ and just kept parts or wanted to fix it up. Bob

      Thanks for the reply, Bob.

Yeah, it looked like beast to try to restore, with all those tubes and broken parts, so I just stripped it. After learning that Townsend used that model on Baba O'Reilly and Won't Get Fooled Again, I kind regret not at least turning it on to see if it worked and what it could do before I hacked away at it. My main focus was the speakers and any other usable parts.

I didn't keep the module with voicing switches (though I kept the tubes), or anything from the keyboard section or foot pedals. I only kept the main amplifier chassis. I have no idea if it can be turned into something useful, with all those octal sockets on it. That's mainly the schematic I would be looking for.

      Thanks,

      Brad1
