There was a Fender Bulletin regarding the output transistors

          Dual Bass 400 Changes
Replace the eight MJ15003 transistors with MJ15022 transistors to increase the safe operating area
of the output stages. Use Motorola or equivalent parts only. the Fender part number is:

025744 type MJ15022 NPN power output

I had one a little while ago with a lot of cracked solder joints on the rear upper back panel pcb
particularly around the multi-ribbon connector pins.
It still had the original MJ 15003's which seemed to be "hangin' in" !

I mentioned to the owner that Fender had upgraded the outputs but we decided
"if it ain't broke don't fix it " except if he started blowing o/p transistors it may be a good idea
          to replace the lot.

The power transformer had a nasty laminations rattle in sympathy with the mains cycles
which was impossible to dampen but the owner wasn't too bothered about that.
