  • A prescription from a doctor

    Dear forum’s members and lurkers,

I’m glad to assist to anyone, who address personally to me, if I have the right information.
This applies both to the schematics that I uploaded earlier (and which are now inaccessible)
and to the new requests. I apologize that I cannot give detailed explanations step by step.
I just don’t have enough time.

Please specify manufacturer and model. Do not forget to send your private email address,
which I will use, if the volume of the information exceeds attachment limitations of this forum.

I beg to inform me about measurement equipment, which you have/use. This will help me
to understand with who I am dealing and to formulate an answer in optimal way.

    Measurement equipment, which you have/use.

    Please choose:
    1. I do not have/use any measurement equipment.
    2. Continuity tester.
    3. Multimeter.
    4. Analog scope.
    5. Digital scope.
    6. Logic analyzer.

If you want, estimate and provide your knowledge in electronics and/or professional skills.

    Knowledge in electronics.

    Please choose:
    1. I know nothing about electronics.
    2. I’m familiar with Ohm’s law and I can read and understand electric schematics.
    3. I’m familiar with discrete and linear devices (transistors, tubes, opamps, regulators, etc.) and
I’m able to work with their datasheets.
    4. I’m familiar with digital devices (logics, controllers, memories, ADC/DAC, etc.) and I’m able
    to work with their datasheets.
    5. I’m a B.Sc. in Electronics.
    6. I’m a M.Sc. in Electronics.

    Professional skills.

    I can successfully replace:
    1. #4-40 (or M3) screw Phillips pan head.
    2. EL34 tube.
    3. Axial lead 1W resistor.
    4. Radial lead electrolytic capacitor.
    5. SMD LED of the 0402 footprint.
    6. 208-pin chip of the TQFP package.

    Doctor.

This is a wonderful ability that not everyone has. It confirms your correspondence to chosen slogan: ”Education is what you’re left with after you have forgotten what you have learned”.

It would be great if all members had to fill out Post #1.
It could be a part of there profile.

I wouldn't mind if they could not send a PM when their post count was zero. It defeats the purpose of a forum when we get requests for personal consultations. "You seem to know a lot about Peavey amplifiers (or whatever), and my 5150..." and a post count of zero. I always invite them to start a thread for their amp. If I keep it private, then my effort benefits only one person instead of many. I also point out that if I did my assisting in PMs, then they would never have known I existed.

I think that is a great idea, and in a short few minutes my profile will be updated with that information. I'm a confessed amateur and am certainly willing to help you folks help me in the most efficient manner possible.
