  • Layout drawing for late 70's Deluxe Reverb (w/ the P-P volume pot)

Before I call Fender I thought I'd check around to see if anyone has the layout drawing for this amp. A friend has one and wants to blackface it- if I had the layout drawing I could color in the parts for him to change or remove.

I believe those are all earlier models. I have never seen a layout for that particular DR.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

That's what I was thinking. The official Fender schematic was evidently "photoshopped" from an earlier schematic back in the days when photo editing involved xacto knives and rubber cement. (Note the gap between Reverb-Amp and Schematic where a 5 digit date code was apparently whited out.)

My guess is that the layout is essentially the same as the AB868 (with the addition of the boost circuit w/ the PP switch on the volume control.) Otherwise there would have been a big demand for a layout drawing over the years and if Fender did not supply one then I'm sure one of the amp techs would have drawn it up. Purely speculation but I would bet a nickel on it...

I was wondering if you were very familiar with this amp and schematic. The "resistor cross" on the input to the phase inverter shows a pair of 330k resistors instead of the expected 1M value as well as an 820R resistor going to the common cathode instead of the expected 470R value. As I understand it (very possibly wrong!) raising the 470R resistor to 820R would lower the gain of the PI and replacing the 1M resistors with 330k would also have that effect. Switching those resistors with the earlier values would be a big step towards the "blackfacing" of the amp- right? The only other obvious change I noticed was adding the 1200pF caps to ground from the grids of the power tubes. And removing all of the wiring for the boost circuit would probably be a good idea.

I have attached the schematic of this amp. Deluxe Reverb Amp with Volume Boost Schematic.pdf

        Thanks!

P.S. Here is a link to the schematic for this amp (and many thanks to vintagekiki for the heads up on that site- it looks very comprehensive!)

Fender Deluxe Reverb (w / the PP volume pot) in some places called as Fender Deluxe Reverb 10-6-77
          http://www.thevintagesound.com/ffg/schem/deluxe_reverb_10-6-77_schem.gif

Preamp schematics for 10-6-77 basically is identical, as preamp schematics for Fender series SF100 / SF135 (both series have PP volume pot), so it's safe to say, that both preamp layouts very similar
