  • Epiphone ea50 Pacemaker (3 tube)

I just got an early 60's Epiphone ea50 Pacemaker at a local auction (only $20) It's missing its preamp tube, there isn't a tube chart, and I cant find a schem. for this exact amp on line. I could manage without a schem. but I'm not really sure what preamp tube it takes. I think it's a 6eu7. Does anyone here have a schematic and/or know for sure what preamp tube I need?
On further investigation, It looks just like a Gibson Skylark GA5 and the 2 tubes that came with the amp are the same as those specd. for the gibson. I guess I'll have to open it up and trace the leads to see if it wants a 12ax7, or 6eu7... unless someone here knows.

Do it anyway, it is entirely possible your model is not identical to someone else's unit of the same model type. Gibson is famous for that.

Thanks Enzo. I've been trying to get the chassis out, but it slides into a groove cut into the cabinet and the wood has swollen. I'm sure it's going to have to come out for caps anyway, so I'll just keep working at it.

Okay, I got it out. Had to build a puller. A length of angle iron across the back of the cab, and J hook to pull at the back of the chassis. It is just like a Gib. GA-5. This one has had a family of critters living in it. Nest on one end, latrine on the other.
