Thank you for the follow-up. Just getting back to updating post. Amp fixed earlier this week. Process followed was exactly what you outlined. Preamp (PC5258) has 4 op amps that crossed to an NTE 8 pin dip op amp. Ran test tone from input jack, traced tone to first op amp input pin, checked output pin, found no output. Replaced the op amp. Have clean audio to the horns and speaker bottoms. Guess I'm too old school (Navy trained) - like to have schematic to use when tracing. Truthfully, this wasn't difficult to trouble shoot - except for being stubborn (i.e. lazy). Thanks again for your assistance.

OK, I was finally at my shop last night and brought the Kustom files home. I do have the 5282.

The schematic calls out 4558 op amps, I hate to see someone buying NTE anything. few op amps are as common as 4558. And honestly just a bout any dual op amp would work there, 4580, TL072, etc. Four dual op amps, plus a 723 regulator used to make a 7.5v reference from the +12.

Many thanks for your help. There are 3 electronic parts suppliers outside of Radio Shack in town. One of the long time suppliers is on the verge of sinking, another is owner operated and he may retire at any time. NTE is the only game at the 3 suppliers, unless one wants to order via the net and wait for delivery. Unfortunately, my experience over the past few years is that R/S stores aren't much more than cellphone retailers...(soap box comment). Two of the store may close at any time due to various reasons.

I am a retired gomer that enjoys tinkering with vintage music stuff (amps and effects). Currently working on an old (1968ish?) "Checkmate 25" amp head that has 2 boards with early primitive runs that lift off more often than not when trying to replace components. Couldn't find a no cost schematic for download after searching online. Had to buy the schematic from a site that specializes in PDF schematic downloads.

Sorry to hear that, I grabbed my Kustom binders from the shop as I mentioned, and last night I inventoried the contents for my library guide. Though you did save me the trouble of scanning them in.

Couldn't find a no cost schematic for download after searching online. Had to buy the schematic from a site that specializes in PDF schematic downloads.

Is this the same schematic that you had found for the Checkmate 25? (Sorry to derail thread but just had to ask if this is the same version of schematic.)

No, the schematic that I have is for the later transistor version of the Checkmate 25. The tube version that you have predates the transistor Checkmate by several years. I believe the amp I have, if it is Teisco made, was produced shortly before Teisco faded away. Amp uses all gernanium transistors, relatively expensive to replace...

I have the 5033 and 5065 schematics from this site. Would like to have the PC5258, PC5259, parts layouts, and inter-connect diagrams related to the Kustom VIII BAS. I understand the process scanning and posting is time consuming. Any assistance that you can provide is appreciated and is at your convenience. I am kind of a Kustom amp nut (not limited to Kustom amps...).
