  • Albion TCT35 Conmbo

    Hi Everyone,

Hopefully someone has the schematic for an Albion TCT35 Combo.

I need to find the watt/voltage of the screen grid resistor used on the 6L6GC power tubes.
The resistance is 470 Ohm but I do not want to guess on voltage or wattage.

    Thanks

    Mark

I think you should try the "official" method first and contact Albion Amps directly.

ALBION AMPS | by Amplegend Steve Grindrod

The lettering on their contact dialog box is rather faint but is there.
Alternatively a gmail contact address is at the bottom.

As they are a new "entry" in the guitar amp brands listing and given the pedigree of the designer Steve Grindrod (Marshall & Vox)
I would guess you would have no trouble in getting advice.

There are typical values for this , usually determined by the output wattage and power supply (from 1 watt to 5 watts usually)
but I'm sure suggestions will follow... but although I know you don't want to guess this value , some of our esteemed brains on this forum
could provide you with an educated guess which in my book would be 100% usable !

EDIT: P.S. Just noticed this is your first post here .."Welcome to the forum" !!

My limited dealings with Albion have left me with the impression that they care about their customers. I had a couple of really nicely worded emails from them and I hope they do well.

Trust me, I have tried. They have a few websites (although the US one is dead) and I have emailed everyone of those addresses a few times now (over 3 weeks). In fact I messaged the distributor on Facebook (Company in Canada) and they said they would see what they could do but that has been weeks now as well.

I thought this could be a good last chance since I have never seen schematic requests like this on any other forum. I hope someone can help. In the meantime I am guessing on the screen grid resistor and using 470Ohm 3watt Metal oxide.

Thanks for the Welcome as I hope to become more involved here.

Well I'm surprised , would have thought they would be keen to respond.
Perhaps , it's in the wording of your question.
On the other hand maybe the specs of that resistor are not readily available to office staff.
          i.e. Schematic just says 470Ω.
To me, you have made a sensible choice.
For more opinions post a photo here of the "other" 470Ω that didn't burn out.
We can play guess the type and wattage!!
These days with the lower quality of tube/valve manufacture it's not unusual to find an internal short
circuit in the tube which can take out the screen resistor.

            Here is the good resistor.

The best guess's I can commit to are either 2 or 3 watts and flameproof either carbon or metal film.
As they are economical to buy (the whole amp) I'm going to expose my prejudice and guess
to keep costs down they used flameproof carbon film 3w.

I purchased flameproof 3 watt 470 ohm metal oxide.

Yes I saw that in your fourth post , as you probably know , it won't make any difference to the sound , Marshall use 5w wire wound
which take longer to burn out !

The advantages of metal film would not be noticed here but that is an ideal replacement.

My reason for also wondering the type of resistor is purely an obsessive curiosity.

Actually looking at your photo again the resistor does look larger than the local ones round here,
it appears as long as the 6L6 socket width ... well nearly.

The resistor is 5.75mm diameter and 17mm long. I am guessing it is a carbon film resistor.

The resistors I bought are stackpole brand. I also picked up 2 watt versions which are NTE.

Someone must be watching this forum because Mr Grindrod got in touch with me and emailed me the schematic. To my surprise it is a 470 Ohm 5 watt resistor.
I asked Mr Grindrod for permission to post the schematic on our forum.

                      Thanks everyone for your help!

"Good One sitedrifter" as we say down here.. I guess I better modify my prejudice now !
I guess now as the designer lives next door to the factory everything must be running smoothly
so he has some spare time to surf the forums !
