  • Mica Wau Wau Wailer

Ok. Here in front of me is the Wau wau wailer. It had its guts ripped out, (wires ripped from the board.) Idk how or why but when I came across it I almost tossed it. Knowing jack Shi'ite about any electronics besides splicing wires and having already worked a dmm in school working on fuel injection and emissions troubleshooting.
I went ahead and looked the pedal up. It was vintage and I appreciate the sort. So i looked for the company nothing, I looked for the model, only images. No schematics or wiring diagrams. A few pictures, upside down open chassis. Anyhow it hooked me and here's the spiel. I need wiring diagrams! I pieced the board from threads and links turns out its basically an aria diamond wah fuzz of sort. Ibanez i believe might of been the maker and allowed sister or just random startup companies slap tag their names on this shit. Kinda like the car industry then I guess. And so yeah if anyone has one, a picture of the guts or wiring diagram. I have some schematics of the stages and general pcb and component layout. basically the fundamental aspect of effect peddlin. what wire goes to what pot , switch , jack etc. before its routed to an other. I want to see if its going to work.
i can shoot some pics if needed.

Will do. Give me a couple of days to dig it out and take some decent pics. But just remember, if you get it working, don't blame me... it's SUPPOSED to sound like that!

                    Good Luck!

To quote the Guitar Player vintage pedal shootout, "This pedal's "wow wow" voice sounds pretty decent, but the Wailer easily wins the "Most Disgusting Fuzz" medal, though there were plenty of runners-up. We've yet to hear thinner, stinkier, or more irritating buzz. Well done."

I know the phrase "ice pick to the ears" is overused but, seriously, this pedal has got to be where it originated. The is a fuzz is so shrill and piercing that your dog may attack you out of sheer pain... AND THEN IT HAS A TREBLE BOOST!!!

I used to put a Pearl OC-7 Octaver in front of it and a Boss overdrive pedal behind it (to smooth things out a bit). Then, when I fretted the B string on the 7th fret and bent up on the G string from the 5th fret, I could create a pretty decent analog impersonation of Godzilla's cry as the string oscillations passed in and out of phase. Other than that, I mostly used it to annoy other guitar players.

Good luck, hope you get it working. If you have the technical know-how (I don't), you might want to check the output before you plug it into anything valuable. I had a brand new Crate amp at the time which had both tube and solid state preamp stages, and some component in it literally smoked and caught fire. I was never sure whether it was a problem with the amp or with all the stuff that I plugged into it (with this pedal being the most suspect item, by far). I returned the amp and haven't played the pedal since, so...

LOL, wow that gievs me some hope at recreating sounds from this thing. How can it be any worse right? YOUR AMP BLEW SMOKE? Hell , there wouold of had to of been excess current somehow seeeping through the effects chain. Maybe the input/output filter caps in that pedal were of a small value as to allow dc current in excess of the line signal 1v ac to get through somehow, idk. ill look into it and keep this thread up to date. i havnt srtarted the pedal yet. Im trying to finish a project before moving into a new one.
