  • SWR Spellbinder Blue Power Amp Schematic

Hey folks, I need one for a SWR Spellbinder Blue bass amp, specifically the power supply boards. Fender has a file in their SWR schematics section called "Spellbinder Blue Schematics and Layout.pdf" but it is mostly preamp drawings, nothing for the two power supply PCB's. I emailed Fender support asking about it, in the meantime I thought I'd check here. Thanks.

Are you looking for the power amp portion or the power supply? The Power amp is an ICEPower Module possibly with integrated PS.

If this is the case it could be cheaper to just replace the Ice Module, please check for any numbers on the board.

Fender used the 500 ICE module in the Rumble 100.

      Here is a schematic: 500 ASP.zip

I don't see anything in that zip file.

Believe the SWR uses Icepower 50axs2.

Current trend everywhere, not only at fender, is to use an "80% of a full amp" Ice Power module and just design a preamp.
Such modules offer dual supplies, +/-28V or thereabouts to supply preamps; that´s why they are not shown in detail in the schematic.

They only show the ICE board as a "black box" with input, speaker out, 110/220 mains in and that dual supply I mentioned.

You are not supposed to repair anything there, just full replacement.

Modular power amp is designed mainly for single use.
As long as it works, it works, when module is defect its replaced with a new module.
The new module is plug and play and ready to work immediately after installation.

Manufacturer assumes that the user is not have a technical qualification, not have the necessary measuring instruments so the service defect module becomes "uncertain" venture.
Built in semiconductors in module are specially designed for the given module, and are not interchangeable with commercial parts.

Ok, this is all new and interesting. I'm pretty green when it comes to recent trends in solid state amps.

Fender sent me the official service manual for the amp but as far as schematics go it is the same as the file on their site.

The amp has two modules (I'm uploading pics) related to power amp/power supply. The black one I believe is an ICE 50ASX2BTL https://icepower.dk/products/amplifi...es/asx-series/. The green one is labeled FMIC (Fender Musical Instruments Corporation I presume) and has no other identifying information that I can see. The other PCB's in the amp are all a blue-ish color and have the SWR logo have which suggests to me that the green one is a drop in module as well but I wouldn't know how to determine the part number etc. A friend of the owner had tried to fix this amp before giving up due to not finding schematics. The notes that were passed on to me indicate that he found a couple of blown 400mA fuses on the ICE board. He said the green board has additional switching supplies that produce specific voltages and he determined that there seemed to be a short in one or more of the supplies.

So at this point I'm not sure whether I should try replacing or fixing the two modules or some combination of the two.

                  Here's the pics.

Well, some of us get cranky about having to go find it ourselves.

So there is no diagram for the aux. supply. Maybe post some pics and others might want to suggest whether to try a repair on it or if it will likely need a swap due to lack of schematic.
The power module you will have to replace. So maybe price that out first and see how much room that leaves for the supply repair (to remain economically feasible).
As far as I know, the ICE should be available generically without having to be a Fender part.

Pics other than the one I put up already?

If the only problem with the ICE board was the two blown fuses it seems kind of ridiculous to replace the whole module,no? From the notes this other guy gave me I gathered he thought there was a short somewhere in that green supply board that had caused the fuses to blow.

Here's the notes I got from him (if you can zoom in).

Ok. I had thought that connector carried AC to the other board. If it's the +/-25VDC, and the other board derives it's voltages from there, then yes that may be why the fuses blew. You could replace those and power up only the ICE module and see if they hold.
