  • Very elusive DOD schematic

    Hi guys,

    Here's one for you...

I have a couple of old DOD 844 Series II Quad gates.

One is ok and the other is faulty. I've spent some time on the faulty one and due to the fact that there is a lot of DC control circuitry around each gate it's proving to be a real pig to diagnose without any schematic information. I've looked absolutely everywhere for diagrams for this unit and come up with a complete blank.

Does anyone have schematics for this thing? If you do, could you please post them here?

Actually I don't hold out much hope that anyone will have the schematic. I've exhausted all my usual "go to" places to find it!

    Anyone?

    Did you ask DOD directly?

Little point now. DOD is now part of Harman.

Try getting ANY schematics out of them now and you are met with "it is our policy to only supply service information to authorized service centres and registered dealers".

In my experience, even the dealers have trouble getting information now. Harman have ruined the industry with this practice. Behringer (Music Group) also have the same policy.

As these two companies virtually own the whole music industry now it's not looking good for the future. In the next few years a LOT of equipment will be thrown on the scrapheap due to this. Not good for the planet.

I think you will need to find a long time DOD/Digitech service center for any chance of finding the schematic. Somebody was servicing them when they were current and not everyone throws out their old schematic libraries. Might have to buy it though.

Is the fault common to all gates in the defective unit? Or are some of it's gates working?

Looks like i don't need the drawings. I found the problems but I couldn't believe what I found...

This is a quad gate and has 3 controls per gate: Threshold, Release and Attenuation. I found that all four attenuation pots had lost their wipers! Broken, gone, Therefore it completely screwed all audio and caused DC to appear on all outputs! What are the chances of that?

Anyway, if anyone has any schematics for this one I'd appreciate it.
