I made my 5E3 in a head/cab format. I did this so that I could carry it easier, also so that I could mix and match my speaker cabs. Finally, I might want to build another head like a deluxe reverb or something, so I'll be able to reuse my cabs.
The cabs are loaded with Weber speakers (one has a 12" ceramic Blue Dog, the other has a 12" 12F150A.) The head has Chicago transformers, orange drop coupling caps, sprague filter caps, and a combination of metal film and carbon comp resistors.
The only mods I made to the stock circuit are that I made the bypass cap on V2 switchable, added a standby switch, and lowered the coupling caps to .022 from .1 pF (because it sounded like crap with humbuckers with the .1's in there. I also had a switchable feedback loop, but I pretty much thought the NFB sucked in this amp so I removed that.
