Difference in construction between a British and American voiced speaker.

I have been listening on Eminence site between Red White and Blues and 1258. I really have second thoughts on the 1258. The two sound so so close. From the graph, RWB should have slightly more bottom and ever slightly more highs. I am wondering should I cancel the 1258 and order the RWB. It's only $5 difference.

Please help!!!!

Well, it's a matter of personal taste and sensibilities but "I" liked the 1258 better than the RW&B. And I've heard them both in person with the same amp. The worst that can happen is that you'll stew on it and end up with two speakers! I certainly have a few. It happens.

So you would stay with the 1258? Actually you were the one that introduced me to RWB.

By your description I thought it might be a good speaker for you. But you did have to make the decision for yourself and I was trying to give you more confidence in that decision. They're both an improvement over the Oxfart.

I actually like 1258 slightly more from what I heard on Eminence site. I do value your opinion and that's the reason I kept listening to RW&B once I found out that Eminence have the sound clip.

It is strange if you go to RB&B speaker, you can't find the sound clip, but if you don't specify the speaker and scroll down the Support Tone Guide, it's there. I A/B compare the two for over an hour and they sound so close. I just come back and ask if I should cancel the 1258 and go with the RW&B.

You listen to both, are they almost the same with the RW&B just slightly fuller on the bottom? Or do they sound different in real live.

BTW, I am redrawing the schematic of the preamp distortion and post it later. It's been a while and the old schematic is a little far off. I don't want to waste your time looking at an old outdated schematic.

OK, I just received email the 1258 is not going to arrive until 4/14/14 earliest. So I still have plenty of time to cancel the order and change my mind. So if there is other suggestions, I am still all ears.

One vote here for Warehouse Guitar Speakers. Excellent sound and value. I use the ET65 in my custom cabs, knockoff of a Celestion 65 watt ...

Make that two votes. I have a pair of ET-65s in my '68 drip edge Pro Reverb and they are excellent and represent the best of both worlds in my opinion. Keep in mind that I removed a pair of perfectly functioning Jensen C12-NTs (for safekeeping) and have never once considered swapping them back. That was over four years and well over 150 shows ago.

Another speaker that is worthy of consideration if you're seeking a hybrid American/British voiced speaker is the Eminence Wizard. The bass is very tight and controlled, the mids are complex and slightly aggressive, and the high end suits a Fender amp very well. One potential drawback is that it's extremely efficient at 103db, which would make for a very loud pair in a 40-watt amp.

I really prefer American sound, I ordered the Eminence Legend 1258 which is similar to the Jensen C12N.

I've been itching to try the Wizard. The clips I've heard sound good. My favorite design (of my own) is a 15W/18W (clean) 2Xel84 design. A Wizard speaker would certainly do it justice for gig volume. Not re checking the specs but I think I read that it's intended for closed back cabinets primarily. At only 15w to 20w it should probably handle combo service though. Just haven't had the spare coin to make this curiosity a priority yet.
