Steve, I'm willing to bet that anyone who's built a cabinet has done that. I think a belt sander is a very necessary "fitting" tool.
I have also glued a small piece of tolex together, and wrapped a piece of grill cloth over that, and then make my measurements against it for the baffle.

FWIW allow a 1/8th" gap on the bare timber surrounding the baffle and the rear boards for this reason.

        5E3 plans

I thought I downloaded this drawing from here but I can't seem to find the link now. I'll delete if it is a duplicate.

Anyway, having neither dissasembled or built a tweed type cab, I have a question about it. Are those four decorative screws in the front bezel the only thing that holds the baffle in?

This is probably not of as general interest as the other posts, but being a Vox nut, I've detailed making repro cabs for some Vox stuff. The Thomas Vox Beatle Cab is here.

The drawing and dimensions for an AC30 repro cab are here.

As a sidelight, these amps came with vinyl dustcovers. I did an article on how to make the dust covers dust covers that might interest a few people.
Amazing!! Who would ever have guessed that someone who villified the evil rich people would begin happily accepting their millions in speaking fees!

Oh, wait! That sounds familiar, somehow.

Thanks for the information, R.G., I have never thought about a Vox build, but now, why not?
I am currently building a Fender repro 15" Tone Ring cabinet, and picked up a hacked up Deluxe chassis that I have some crazy ideas for, but next year, maybe I need an AC30 build!
            Thanks again.

Seems like a head cab for one of those would be better configured with the tubes on top of the chassis, and maybe a Marshall style cabinet,(chassis on bottom).

I wish I had drawn out my cabinets to post here, but I work mainly from sketches when working with wood. All I have is some pics of finished products. Pics of finished cabinets won't be very helpfu. Thanks to those who have postd their stuff.

Sorry if I was unclear, but I am building two amps, a 5E3 and a 5F1 Champ. I was planning on making them both into heads (seperately) and not combos. I don't plan on putting both amps into the same head (although it would be fun). I have found a few posts about Deluxe heads but very little on Champs. I'm assuming since it is such a small amp to begin with, that most people just make them into combos.

You pretty much just build a simple box around your chassis. Just make sure you don't use an oversized chassis or it will be a BIG box.

Those are amazing prices for such quality cabinets. You would be hard pressed to make your own as cheap.
