Thanks Tom, Have had a read of all I can find!!
I am learning to put up with it. Although I would love to hear some of that 5E3 overdrive without having bleeding ears!!

The correct way to do it is placind an attenuator placed between amp and speaker. You can set your amp to give the tone you're looking for and reduce the overall volume. I just got one on ebay, I am looking forward to try it.

It works like a dream. I can crank the volume right up to 10 and still have the volume at a useable level.
