caps in a 5E3

might do the all .022s this week... I hope I get to like it more than you did

On my 5E3 I lowered the coupling caps throughout, and I still tend to keep the tone knob almost full up with most guitars. At one point, I changed ALL coupling caps to .02, to the point I could have the tone knob in the middle where my mind thought it should be. With this drastic of a mod, though, the amp really seemed to be lacking some oomph.

yeah I hear you... but I'm more of a guitar player than an amp tweaker hehe... but I do hope I get THE tone I've been aiming for...

It's not hard to tweak a 5E3, it's just a bit time consuming swapping parts in and out. But you are after good tone, and it's not a race, right?

if that video is the tone you want, then definitely change the caps. Mine sounds similar to that video. I don't have a tele though.

I'd hate to steer you wrong and make you have to make more tweaks, but I'd recommend against changing all the caps to .02. I can get a bright tone like that with a 335, which is a pretty dark guitar. I changed the last two caps to .047 instead of .02. You'd be wise to make incremental changes rather than going extreme.

I've also switched from a Weber 1230-55 to a Celestion Greenback
