Good day to you cjm808....I have not sorted it out as of yet...have some van issues...brake lines busted...tow jobs, repairs
etc....waiting to hear back from the garage... I am not sure if your problem is exactly the same as mine...when I install a new EL84 it blows the 125ma fuse.If I install a 6BQ5 , the amp works but I find that the 6BQ5 gets very, very hot after a few minutes of use.THe cathode resistor and bypass cap check fine....I am thinking I might have a problem with the output transformer as this is directly connected to the plate of the tube. And the insulation on one side of the transformer looks like it might have overheated a bit...but can't really tell for sure which is why I am going to sub in another one just to check. The EL84 that I am using is brand new and works in other amps so the new tube is not causing the fuse to blow. Did you check for any bad solder connections?? When I had this one apart I found a few of them...could be causing the problem when it is cranked up. Does it do the same thing at a more moderate volume level?? If so then it could be tube related..also, some of these fuse holders don't always hold the fuse tight and I have had some cases in other equipmnet(not necessarily guitar amps), where the fuse was sort of loose in it's holder and when any vibrations occurred, it used to make and break the contact...not saying that this is your problem but it could be...when R5 burned up in this amp in was burnt to a crisp and this is why I thing the output transformer might be damaged. Let me know how you make out with your problem...
    Cheers,
    Bernie

Ahh...Back at it again....I had to bite the bullet and order in an output transformer for the Class 5. Got ahold of the parts distributor and they gave me the impression that the part was in stock..after the transaction went through on my visa card, they politely informed me of a 4 to 6 week wait on the transformer as it was out of stock...needless to say I was not very impressed...however....I have been looking for other sources of parts for Vox, Marshall and Korg......and after that I will not be using this distributor anymore. I found a place called Parts is Parts....anybody have any experience in dealing with them?? Does anybody know of other distributors that would be good to work with??
