  • Ampeg B5R premature decay of notes

I have an Ampeg B5R on the bench. The notes ring out but seem to decay too quickly. Also it doesnt seem as loud as it should be. I took a look inside and the fan isnt on. I applied 24 volts to it from a different power supply and the fan does work. I could really use a schematic. I have searched the net and this site and every time I click on a link, I get a 404 or a blank page. HELP!!! Pretty please??!! Lol!!! Thanks for looking.

SO if you found what you want here and the link is dead, go post there that the link is dead. We are reposting schematics as people ask. All our files wre lost in a server crash.

At power on, the fan should 'try' to spin.
Then it will turn on when the heatsink gets hot, from operating the amplifier.
Not too sure what 'decay too quickly' would imply.

How does the bias look? Set too low you could be experiencing notes that 'decay too quickly'.

As far as I know, the B4a and B5a differ only in their preamps. Same power amp in both.

Can you describe what you mean by "The notes ring out but seem to decay too quickly"?

remove the fan & check it's supply voltage. check bias. check psu voltages at rest and with signal applied.
