I don't think it's really bait and switch. I pointed out his inconsistency earlier, relating to his "rule" that "REAL Ampegs" were made in the USA. When I pointed out that SLM amps were "real" by that definition, he changed the rule to say "Magnavox." I thought it was just bait and switch then, but now that he's telling us that he was servicing Ampegs before we were born, and that he's really a young man, I'm not convinced that he's playing bait and switch any more. He's not elderly, he's not senile, he's not confused, he's not argumentative, and he's not bait and switching. It's really pretty simple -- he's a liar. That puts everything into perspective.

Everything I said is 100% true.

No, I am not a service center now, nor do I intend to be...I told you that before.

And i do not need to be a Loud Technology tech, I have no desire to be. Nobody cares.

I was an authorized service center for the real Ampeg USA. Until they folded.
And that was before many of you were born, fact.
I was also a service tech for Peavey, Moog, Marshall, Fender, Crate, and several others. That was many years ago.

If you would like to consider pseudo-ampegs as "real Ampegs," you can continue that fantasy...even though they are nothing like the real ones.

To me, they will always be: Crate-Pegs.

I have supported musicians here, no matter what amp they have.
And I'm doing a damn fine job of it.
I don't need to be anybody's service center.

And most of all, I don't need to live up to your expectations, or accept your "popular opinions."

You follow what others tell you, like a blind sheep. You have no original concept of your own.
If somebody tells you, and it's popular, you follow without question.

And you attack anybody who thinks different than you...because attacking is popular.
But you demonstrate nothing new, you contribute zero original thought.
Because that is what you are happy doing.

I can make my own observations, and form my own opinion, based on my own knowledge and experience, even if it's different from you.

And because you don't like it? I don't give a damn.

Well good, glad you don;t give a damn. Attacking is popular? Ever notice you and your BS are the only one being attacked?

Yup you have given great advice no matter what amp they have....? I find it to be hilariously funny and don't take you serious at all, even though you are.

Personally I have come to expect that from SGM when asking about anything Crate. Now does it get old? Do I laugh more or less each time? More or less...

                  It´s old and boring.

But, did you expect anything else?

Sometimes a three year old child will walk into a room of adults and says something that they all laugh about. So the child then proceeds to say the same thing over and over expecting everyone will laugh again. But mainly they get sick of hearing it.

                    • Jumping in here late. Back to the original problem. Change out the screen resistors to 1K ohm, 5 watt. I've been doing doing this for years now, as per Kevin O'Conner - London Power. Yes, it will affect the bias setting, but you compensate with the bias pot. According to Kevin, modern production tubes just aren't as robust as the older tubes were. You need better screen current protection. I've never had a problem after this change. I run this value in my amps. My tubes are 6 yrs. old now, and biased for 60% dissipation.

The caveat is, can you fit a 5 watt ceramic on the board, with the eyelet spacing? You may have to get creative. Tying to the tube socket is not a problem.

                      • Doesn't have to be ceramic - power MO resistors are much smaller and place less mechanical strain on the joints if the amp gets jarred.

                            • Not the REAL ZZ Top, All ZZ Top now Chinese.

                              Must be ZZ Top-Peg.

Real ZZ Top worked for Magnavox.

But then stupid people will think what they like and watch the ZZ Top-Peg.
