JC-80 bad transformer and where to get one

From the symptoms described, it is highly unlikely that the transformer is bad. From the description of the tech, his diagnoses are very questionable.
So I think 52Bill just mentioned that in the unlikely scenario that you end up needing one.
But here's an idea. If you were to buy one of these and supply it to the tech, under the agreement that if it did not fix the problem, you get the amp back for the minimum bench fee (estimate charge).

Fully agree.
You give him a transformer perfect for the job, which to boot will supply +/-45V rails, whatb the doctor ordered, and now it's up to him to stand by his own words.
If the amp works well (not likely but not impossible either) you paid a little bit too much to a guy who actually hasn't earnt it but at least you end up with a working amp.

If not, he must eat crow, you owe him nothing because of his incompetence or at most a bench charge ($75 is already excessive) and you get your amp back.

Anything else and he holds your amp hostage, it's either Small Claims or BBB or Uncle Joe the Cop or a couple muscular friends.
No kidding.

Once I rescued my van that way from a dishonest body repair shop, the guy run inside when he saw my friends and his wife handed me the keys and car papers without a word, other I rescued a bunch of amps from an unpaying rehearsal studio, plus several lesser episodes.

Not an aggressive guy in the least, but sometimes there is no other way.
