It also pays to use needle sharp probe tips, yes the kind that poke into your skin all the time. Most probes are just cone shaped on the point but not sharp. Sharp probes pierce the lead solder and make good contact and don't slip off as easily.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

I've often just slipped some heat shrink onto the probes, leaving only the tips exposed after shrinking.Amazing!! Who would ever have guessed that someone who villified the evil rich people would begin happily accepting their millions in speaking fees!
Oh, wait! That sounds familiar, somehow.

We have some at work but I usually have different probes for different jobs, sharpened and covered in heat shrink as Enzo and RG mentioned.
Also chip clips that fit over a chip with metal pins sticking up to clamp scope probes on for monitoring as many points as scope channels you have.
I have a couple 4 channel scopes and a digital scope at work.

There are now probes available that have a retractable shroud that you can extend along the tip and decide for yourself how much of the tip remains exposed. The Fluke TI175 probe is an example. The heat shrink trick is what I use but these new probes looked kind of neat.Last edited by Tom Phillips; 08-19-2017, 05:14 PM.
