    I get quite a lot of Peavey gear in for repair, most easy fixes that generate easy money.

    Briefly looking at the schematic, you could probably find a generic replacement trans for less money.

    I repaired a Sunn Solaris that needed a PT for a friend for cheap.

    Used an Ampeg PT he had for high voltage, filament and rectifier tube, and used a spare low voltage PT I had lying around for the reverb and tremolo.

      Sure, repairs with generic parts, usually a slam dunk. However this PT has a pair of extra low voltage windings, that rules out generic PT's. There's so little room on the chassis, no chance of stuffing it with a generic plus extra PT's to power of the ancillary power supplies.

      And similarly I've fixed lots of amps that needed iron with easily found parts intended for Fenders & Marshalls. FWIW many Sunn OT's are Dynaco - can be gotten new from sources that supply Dynaco fanatics or pulls from defunct Dyna amps on Ebay.

      This isn't the future I signed up for.

            I expect this will be the future of Peavey repairs, techs helping each other out, scrounging from the bone yard. Helluva thing, innit?

              Just an update on my previous post. I got this info from Chris at Peavey. Grant has officially retired. I'm just glad to know he's still with us.

                Grant, Leon, Sheila and Sherry in parts, and a host of others were great for many years. Roger Crimm is still there.
                Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

                  Agree. They have had a great bunch of folks there in support- always friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, etc. I hope it stays that way as the old guard moves on.

It isn't possible and certainly not cost effective to continue to stock parts for product that has been out of production for decades. Also, our manufacturing has mostly shifted overseas, so certain cosmetic and other parts with low sales numbers are not stocked here any longer, even if we do still sell the product.

                      Of course we still work very hard to support our products and I am not saying that we have no parts or support for older product. But when those parts run out they will not be restocked. In many cases they aren't even made any more, and if they are the MOQs are usually ridiculous.

                      There is also a financial aspect to consider. Yes, it sucks to lose a knob or a little cover plate or a screw, but Peavey loses money on orders like that before they even get out the door. In days past we could absorb the loss but that isn't the case anymore... Our minimum order is now $10, but even at that we lose money.

                      Bottom line, keep calling till you get me. Afternoons are usually better, and keep in mind our business hours are 8 to 5 Central time. I am usually at lunch from 12 to 1 so keep that in mind. I hate to say this, but if you leave me a message about an obsolete/nickel or dime part you probably won't get a call back. I am going to post a stickie soon with links to some suppliers that stock our parts, so please reach out to them if you are having a hard time reaching us.

                          Thanks for sharing that Enzo. We certainly understand and feel for Roger. The last year has created strenuous work conditions for so many. Hang in there Roger!!

                            That's a heckuva letter, thanks for sharing Enzo! It's dated about 2 weeks before I began my transformer treasure quest. Poor guy, busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger. "Keep calling till you get me" - an invitation to an endless game of idiot's delight. How can a so-called professional manufacturer let their parts department be run like this, it's beyond understanding. Somebody there had enough time to answer my email with a price and yes it's available, but the overworked - and probably underpaid - Mr. Crimm can't take the order. Then, even if I do get through and offer my credit card, who's gonna pack it and meet UPS/Fedex on the loading dock to get it sent out? Sounds like a ghost town there at Peavey Central Headquarters.

                              YouseTube 10 scary minutes at the abandoned Peavey Decatur MS plant, for real. Poor Mr. Crimm, must be like a ghost wandering around in all that decaying splendor. This was a major American manufacturing complex only a few years ago.
