  • Need a good recomendation on a Biasmeter to bias my JCM 800 2205 and Fender twin reverb amps

Can someone recommend me a good Biasmeter for my Fender twin reverb and Marshall JCM 800? I purchased a 4 socket Weber Bias Rite 8 years ago which measured plate voltage and cathode current but 2 of its terminals broke up. Maybe bad quality plastic. I need a replacement that measures both and has at least 2 probes.

Why not just fix it? Which terminals broke? Pictures?

The red knob twin already has bias test points.
How much do you want to spend for bias probe? They range from around $20 for kits from Mojotone, up to several hundred dollars like the TAD Bias Master.

Single octal bias probe for use with a Multimeter. I like this best. seems most durable. https://www.eurotubes.com/store/pc/bias%20probes.htm link has the fancy ones

I get that you could buy another bias probe, but the Weber is a nice unit. I'm not sure what "broke up terminals" the OP is referring to, but the only connectors I'm aware of on that unit are ordinary octal sockets, which could easily be replaced. Hell, if you're not going to fix it, send it to me!

Again,.....which "terminals" are you talking about and do you have pictures. I can't tell you how to fix it until I know what's broken.

Picture attached. Help me save some cash replacing 2 of these terminals instead of buying the eurotube bias meter quite expensive at us139 and only comes with one terminal.

From what I can see, you have a broken keyway on one, and part of a female socket missing on the other (hard to tell for sure from the pics). If that's correct, I'd fix the broken keyway with one of these (just properly align the key and glue it on):

                  https://www.cedist.com/products/keyw...ce-octal-tubes

If you have the missing part of the female socket, glue it back on. If not, I'd replace the female socket with something like this (measure to be sure whatever you get fits):

                  https://www.cedist.com/products/sock...-mounting-hole

You'll have to figure out how to pop out the old socket, but they put it together so it must come apart. The sockets are likely just pressed into the tube. Just copy wiring. Wire the new socket like the old one. No rocket science involved.

Aside from that, you have 2 that are still good, so you could use it as is.

Looks like there is a wire coming out that keyway, no idea what that would be.

Yeah, now that I look closer, it also looks like pry marks on that socket. So, maybe someone already took it apart and broke a wire that goes to one of the pins. Probably too late now, but I wouldn't have taken that one apart and just put a keyway replacement on it. Whatever the case, it shouldn't be difficult to repair any of these problems.

Did these ever work properly while in your care? If no, go find the smedly that sold them to you and work them over good. If yes,.. Why did you jack them up like that?

I'm not sure what you're looking for. It's the same as repairing any other piece of broken electronics. Because it's test equipment doesn't matter. Here's how you fix it- replace and reconnect the broken parts. Not much else I can tell you. Not trying to offend you, but if you can't replace and rewire a tube socket, you probably shouldn't own this piece of gear. I know that sounds snarky, but maybe just a reality check?
