Crate GX-15 - Hums with radio station reception

    Crate GX-15 - Hums with radio station reception

    I have a Crate GX-15 that makes a loud humming noise when turned on. I also hear a faint radio signal in the background. This is happening when there are no cables plugged into the amp.

    I read through the posts below and tried testing the voltage on the red/black speaker connectors. It reads zero which makes me think the amplifier (TDA2030) isn't the issue. The caps appear normal and soldered well. I can post photos if it helps.

        What position are the regulators in? Set them all to minimum and see how they react.

          What does the power supply voltage checks say? If you are hearing radio frequency then you hear some form of amplification. I would inspect the board for bad solder joints and anything else visible. Could be bad solder joints and bad ground connections.

              If you hear radio, it's likely a bad ground. Check all ground connections. Here's a link to the service manual.

              You checked DC on the output. Now measure AC. If there is a substantial AC component, you could have a bad filter cap or one that has a cracked solder joint.
