Hello all, this is my first post on this site. I inherited an old tube powered amp pro tape recorder from my grandfather in non working condition. It was already partially taken apart, but the electronics were all together. It also included a schematic in the user instructions. I went on and disassembled the unit, and checked the transformer windings to make sure they were good. I also removed the board, filter caps, and tubes. I would like to use these parts in constructing a simple single ended tube amp with a volume control. I tried my hand at coming up with a simple schematic to do so. It would be greatly appreciated if someone would critique what I've come up with to make this circuit will work. I also need to know where to put a volume pot. Between the input and the grid of the 12AX7, or inbetween the plate and grid of the 6AQ5? I might be wrong altogether! I'm just getting started in tube electronics, although I'm a liscensed electrician so working with and testing circuits is something I can do. Many thanks to anyone that replies!

I don't want to offend, but to be perfectly honest... I am finding too many flaws in your schematic to even begin making corrections, as one thing leads to another, etc. I would suggest that you copy a selected design and ask Q's here as they pertain to adapting that design to your parts. You will learn some electronic (not electrical) chops along the way and be better prepared to experiment with designing circuits on your next project. And if this amp project works out well (and I think it will, 6AQ5's sing real nice single ended) you'll surely want to build more of your own amps.
For this project I would consider something like a Champ, AC4, etc.

I agree with the previous poster.....
Your schematic is missing plate resistors, grid load resistors, coupling caps, etc., and will not function is is currently drawn. There are too many things to need fixing in that schematic for it to work, or be easy for us to tell you what to change, so I'd suggest to start with a simple amp such as a Fender Champ, and build that, or study the schematic and read up on tube amp design to learn how to build these. Just being an electrician doesn't mean you know how to build a tube amp unfortunately. Once you've redrawn the schematic after studying some others, then we may be able to provide some further assistance.
The Jack Darr book is good for beginners, and is available free, along with many other fine books at Pete Millet's site.
