  • Can Anyone Identify this Tube?

    While digging through my dads old junk I found a box full of loose compactrons. I got one I can't I.D.

    It is a "9AM10" with manufacture codes "73-41", "74-17", and "188-5". It also has U.S.A. marked on the top with some kind of dot code underneath. It is clearly a triple triode with fairly large plates similar to say a 6CG7. Comparing directly with a 6CG7 the filament winding is finer and closer to the cathode so it might have a higher mu. This tube was not listed in my dad's 1967 RCA Tube Manuel and also not listed on the "Electron Tube Data Sheets" site. This last is a first for me. I tried looking under "6AM10", and "12AM10" with no luck. If anyone has any resources with this information I would appreciate. Thanks.

    9AM10, Tube 9AM10; Röhre 9AM10 ID19472, Triple Triode

    "Triple Triode
    Vf=9.5V If=0.6A,
    Typical VP=100V Ia=8mA Rk=200 Ohm Ra=9.3kOhm u=64 S=6.9MA/V"

    Edit: Frank's site has a bit too http://frank.pocnet.net/other/Compac...ronSurvey.html
    Experience is something you get, just after you really needed it.

      Thanks for the info. Plus a new resource!! That is enough data to let me try this tube out.

      BTW... looks like it is pretty similar to a 6AC10 'cept for heater rating.

      Thanks again.

        The 188-5 ID's it as a GE made tube, if that is of any concern

          Agreed that is a huge resource. The time is rapidly approaching when the NOS audio types will be way expensive and those of us who experiment/build using them will be turning to exactly some of the types of tubes outlined in that link. Thanks nickb!
