    Right. In my experience with shielded cabling (general industrial work, not specifically audio) it's the manufacturer of the terminating devices who specify (or otherwise control) the way the shield is handled. The user ignores the specification at their peril. Doing something 'odd' to the cable negates anything the design engineer intended.
