I am the king of wiring up plugs with the shell not put on first. I used to work at a TV station. Once I had to wire up a military spec 32 conductor HF antenna cable connector that was to live atop a transmitter tower for live video transmissions. I did a very nice job soldering up those 32 wires to that big connector. Until realized the shell was still on the bench! I had to snip, re-prepare, and re-connect it, much to the chagrin of my boss. And no, it never comes out as nice the second time for some reason.

I drop my head in shame every time I do this with a 1/4" or XLR connector to this day, it just seems to be a blind spot for me.
It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....

I needed a 5A FA fuse that I ran out of.
      Quick trip to Radio Shack.
Instead of cutting the plastic bag open, I pushed the fuse out of the plastic bag.
      Insert fuse.
      No power.
      Hmmm.
Checked the continuity of the fuse & it shows open.
Upon closer inspection I noticed a piece of the plastic was wrapped around the end.

Better than breaking the fuse... not that I'd know anything about that...

Got a kid's HotRod DeluxeIII in here with a buzz. Pull the chassis and reverb bag, take it all aprt and find the nuts halfway off the little baffle board mounting screws. Aha! Baffle board loose, causing buzz. Cinch down all the nuts, reinstall the chassis, get the reverb bag back into the old holes fire it up and...BUZZ. Sure enough, though I did a fine job on the baffle, that didn;t change the fact the Celestion was rubbing its voice coil. So take it all back apart and pull the speaker, order a new one. G12P-80 are only $24 at Fender. I'd have thought they would be more than that.

After a really quick and easy repair on an HH 100w amp PSU, plugged the connector back onto the preamp board '1 pin out' - they're not keyed. I hadn't discharged the caps beforehand and it went bang. Every IC blown. At least they're all socketed now.

I bet that's your "authorized repair center" price; I see them retail at $79-84.
