  • OT primary impedance on a Deluxe Reverb

I have a silverface Deluxe Reverb. On another board, someone once said that the output tranny in a Deluxe Reverb is better suited for 6L6s than 6V6s. I assume what he meant was that the primary impedance of the OT is lower than optimal for a pair of 6V6s, although he didn't state it in those terms.

So, does anyone know the primary impedance of the output transformer in a Deluxe Reverb?

I'm going to stick with 6V6s because I like them. But if the primary impedance of the OT is only around 4k or so using an 8-ohm speaker, then I guess I'd get a little more power if I were to put a 16-ohm speaker in there.

    Hey Shea-

PriZ of BF/SF DR OT's is 6.6k p-p. FWIW I use that load for cathode-biased EL34's and they sound great. 6V6's like pretty much anything from 5k to 10k, higher values for cathode biased, lower for fixed bias. But the lower you go the more 'quacky' the tone gets, not my cup 'o tea.

Triode Electronics sells a great 6.6k paper interleaved OT:

I've also gotten nice tones from the plastic bobbin (and 30W!) and the bass was nice & full. Makes you realize there's a lot of hype about magnetics. Listen for yourself-
there's a sound sample of this OT in a 29W amp here:
