  • Phone plugs and jacks?!

I am currently working on an SWR California Blonde acoustic guitar amp. I have worked on several SWR amps and one other California Blonde amp. I have never seen the boards connected with RJ45 phone jacks and plugs! I don't know if this is a genius idea or the stupidest idea ever!

Well, when you are designing stuff, you look at how many connections are needed, and, cost. So i guess it was approved by the lead engineer.

I guess it makes sense for ease of assembly.

The RJ45 contacts are rated at 125VAC / 1.5A so, if the signals are within that spec in the SWR California Blonde, they should work OK. Per my experience the RJ45 is a very reliable connector system. However, they are not "Key-able" so that increases the probability of mis-connections when the amp is serviced. I wonder what would happen if someone thought they could connect one of them to an Ethernet port?
