  • Question about biasing my amp.

    Hey y'all,
I have a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, which i bought about 6 months ago. Just about a month ago, one of the stock power tubes stopped glowing, and one of the stock preamp tubes started rattling very badly.
I went to the local shop, and bought a new set of 2 6L6s and 3 12AX7s, and popped them in.
I realized i didnt have enough money to get the amp biased for the new tubes, so i figured i would just use them until i got the money. So my question is, since id heard that blues deluxes have a fixed bias, Do I need to bias my blues deluxe for the new tubes?

also, Ive looked online at torres.com, and they have a kit to install a bias pot on a blues deluxe. If i install this pot, what other equipment do i need to bias my amp (if needed)?

any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Kemp

    Hi Kemp,

the Blues Deluxe Reissue already has a bias pot. Adjusting the bias is a matter of 10 minutes (if you know what you're doing) including opening and closing the cabinet.
Also, all Blues/Hot Rod Deluxe amps I've seen come biased rather cold from the factory, so if the bias was never changed and it works good with the new tubes, you're probably ok.
Can't hurt to have a tech look at it though.

As long as you use the same wattage tube you should be fine. Many 6L6GC's are usually 25 to 30 watters where the stock tubes usually from the factory are 23 watters Sovtek WXT which I personally don't care for. They are also the cheapest tubes available which is another reason you see so many of them. Call Bob at Eurotubes and get some JJ Dual Mica's 2X GC's for combo's matched and take it to a reliable tech and have him insert and bias it up. I only charge $30 for rebias and it's only because you have to take the amp out to rebias it if you can't get to the pot.

        Blues...

        Hey,
There are plenty of instructions online on how to bias your own tube amp (now that i know it can be biased), but where is the bias pot in the amp? I cant seem to find it....

Hey, search for "bias tube amp" on youtube, you can find some videos that might help you, especially from expertvillage. the pot looks like a volume knob, but without the knob, but half the size. you can see examples of it on youtube. good luck
