  • Help with ID of blown SMD chip in EHX Nano Metal Muff (U7)

The title says it all - U7 blew up in my EHX Nano Metal Muff and I'm trying to ID this part. If anyone has one of these pedals they can crack open and let me know what part U7 is I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Some of the lettering is still visible. If you can zoom in closer with a picture, someone might be able to identify from what is left of the lettering.

Agree. A picture of the IC close up and in focus would help. The metal muff schematics I've looked at have only 4558 op amp IC's, so that's my best guess without more info.

What is U2 over on the left? I'd wager the blown one is the same type.

Check which labels (type) other ICs have. High probability that EH uses the same IC

Thanks guys, I've photographed and identified the other chips as best I can. U1, U2, and U5 are RC4558. U6 is LM393. Lettering on U7 doesn't appear to match either of those ICs. U7 also lacks the beveled edge and stripe marking, so I'm still at a loss. It's probably not a Ti chip like the rest.

Incidentally, the nano Metal Muff has a noise gate built in which other iterations of the pedal lack. This may account for the difference in ICs in this pedal compared to the other versions. I will start tracing out from the controls to see what parts of the circuit they connect to to narrow down the function of the un-identified IC.

If you don't find it difficult please upload a complete inside photo, nano Metal Muff (PCB lay), because there are several versions

Yes, tracing where tracks (pins) lead to will suggest function.

To begin with, power it up (guess it blew open and not shorted) , IF a dual Op Amp then pin 4 should be negative or ground, pin 8 should be +V, so near +9V

IF it leads to Power In jack, it might be a switching supply thingie, think one of those Maxim MAX*** or ICL**** charge pumps which generate -9V (-15V) or double +9V to +18V,etc. .
Here you might find a Korean version.

Just to look at it with more possibilities in mind.

Still waiting for a closeup picture of the chip. There may be enough legible numbers left on the IC to identify it.

More full pcb photos as requested. All are marked EC-D179 Rev C 2019 Electro-Harmonix New Sensor Corp. PCB with pots attached has two more RC4558 ICs. Really struggling to get my phone to focus on small objects.

The image of the motherboard is OK and it is helpful if it appears somewhere on https.

EHX Nano Metal Muff is a relatively new product of New Sensor Corp (2019). Schematics for the EHX Nano series I have not noticed. Judging by the environment, the defective IC is most likely some from the OTA series (CA3080, LM13600 ...)
May be helpful schematic for Deluxe Big Muff Pi, because it has Noise Gate.

Solved. See photo from another pedal for comparison. It's a TLC2262 dual opamp from Ti. Makes sense, EHX has been using TCL226x in another designs as well, including Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi.
