  • Web Surfing for the Paranoid!

I am a paranoid Surfer, but I'm all over the web anyway.
If you discover anything to make us more paranoid, list it here!
Here's one I was made aware of today, for you CHROME Web Browser users!
Chrome Flaw Allows Sites to Secretly Record Audio/Video Without Indication

**BTW, I'm paranoid enough, to keep tape over my laptop cameras, when not in use!

I read a reminder a while ago that if you enable "OK Google" you have a live mic on all the time.
    Or something like that.
I just refrain from discussing state secrets while web surfing.

      Well if you go to....
      https://music-electronics-forum.com/

Then it just spins and spins endlessly since this site is a non-secure HTTP page. I think it use to be but just recently it logged me out and I realized https:// secure page does not work for me any more. Please let me know if the result is the same for everyone or if it is just on my Firefox on my computer. The same thing happened to me over at ssguitar.com. All of a sudden I was logged out of that site one day and any time I closed the webpage to return it logged me out. Then I realized my link had changed to HTTP://. I then tried HTTPS:// and signed in again with no problem staying logged in since.

Activity Stream - Music Electronics Forum
This works normally here as it should through just http:// mode. However, when entering in my username/password through http:// Firefox gave warning that "Your connection is not secure" and I always thought https:// mode worked before on MEF. Perhaps the security certificate is outdated now or it is corrupted somehow. Since I want to be able to sign into to MEF I went along with it all and just signed in. Still made me a bit paranoid...

I have no camera or microphone on my computer, so I am unsure how they'd spy on me.

And I don't do facebook, instagram, AOL whatever they use.

According to the latest intel, they can spy on you thru your microwave oven. Hey I heard it on the fair & balanced network, it must be true!

Oh yes, another gem from that stupid lying bizzitch.

“There was an article this week that talked about how you can surveil someone through their phones, through their—certainly through their television sets, any number of different ways,” Conway said. “And microwaves that turn into cameras, et cetera. So we know that that is just a fact of modern life.”

True. Also true if you enable Microsoft Cortana or Apple Siri.

As for the chrome/camera thing, that article is at best poorly written, but it does say
to protect unauthorised streaming of audio and video without user's permission, the web browser first request users to explicitly allow websites to use WebRTC and access device camera/microphone.

Once granted, the website will have access to your camera and microphone forever until you manually revoke WebRTC permissions.
So I don't think it's vulnerable if you avoid video chats via web sites. Stick to text with those customer service people...
