  • EMG tone cap

Have a Tele with 3 EMG single coil active PU's. Too bright and fizzy. It has that weird .1uF cap between the volume and tone pots. EMG suggests to add more in parallel to change high-end roll-off.

I was experimenting, and connected a .022uF cap in regular fashion (from lug to tone pot case...while the other was still installed), and it seemed to tame the tizz pretty well.

Will wiring a cap like a normal passive pickup hurt the EMGs, or cause any other unwanted problems? May experiment with a few values, if it doesn't hurt... on both caps.

    Thanks,

The reason the cap value needs to be so large is because the pickups have lower impedance output.

You can try a larger cap, like a .2 or something.

I got tired of that brittle top end with the EMG pickups in the basses I built. I could never get rid of it, not even with EQ.

I ended up replacing all my EMG bass pickups with pickups I designed.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
