  • Guitar sounds muffled after slipping of my leg and onto the floor

I dropped my electric guitar from sitting height, and after that it sounded muffled in the amp. I thought maybe one of the wires attached to the input got disconnected, so I re-soldered the wires to the input but that didn't fix it. What did temporarily fix it was if I physically touched where the wires connected to the input. Did i just solder it wrong? Could it be the battery? The battery was fairly new, and i dont think dropping it would kill the battery. Any help or advice would be awesome! Thanks

Check the guitar cable. If it was plugged in, it probably yanked the cable harder than anything else, and pulled a wire mostly loose or has a direct intermittent short. I'd cut about 3 inches off and redo it. Check to be sure it didn't bend it so it's contacting the outside housing. A length of unheated shrink tubing might help, or regular plastic tubing that will slip over it. Also check the other end of the wires where they connect to the pots/switch assembly. When you touch the wires and it acts different you have either a short or a bad connection. Also check the tension arm that contacts the end of the jack. If it's bent too loose that may cause problems. You should be able to just bend it inward again and regain some tension, if that helps it might be a good idea to replace the jack. Once it loses tension it will probably do it again at some point.

I can't think of anything else but I'd bet someone else will have 3 or 4 other ideas...
Why do I drive way out here to view the wildlife when all the animals live in town?
