It sounds like this "woooof, wooooof." :-) One man's mud is another man's "creamy" tone. Jump blues guys love turning their tone pots all the way back for muddy distorted rhythmn chops, in rock the rock police would shoot you for that. Its all relative .....http://www.SDpickups.com

What Dave said. All depends on what you want. If you want bright, and dont have any top end, you have mud. But if you want warmth, and have too much brightness, that doesn't do the trick either.
I like having the highs so I can remove them if I want, but sometimes mud is its own tone, like with a Gibson EB-0.It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

mud is usually a problem in the neck pickup of any kind of pickup. If the bass strings mush the tone out, thats mud, to me. Hard to have a muddy bridge pickup because of where its sitting.http://www.SDpickups.com
