Hey David,
I just came across these anti-backlash acme nuts for 3/8 x 10tpi. They seem very reasonable too.

There is no kit, or even a set list of parts, but there is a lot of info in this thread, including parts used by the few forum members that started building one.

I'm only at the stage where I have my motors and controllers and a few other parts, but haven't assembled anything yet.

Well, if anyone gets one going, putting together a parts list and maybe some basic assembly instructions would be great for us that are less electronically-inclined.

The electronics part is an assembled unit. The rest of the winder is a matter of getting the stepper motors and controllers and building the thing.

This "group buy" is for a assembled and tested CNC controller unit, or the brain of the winder.

Yeah, I meant the actually assembly of a complete winder.

I think that's a reasonable request but we are all struggling with budget restraints so that the generic parts of the system are being acquired piecemeal as our individual finances permit and as the various parts appear on ebay etc. Paying 1/3 or less the full price is just too attractive even while the risk of getting parts that are unsuitable or defunct exists.

Again, besides the Elepro controller, you will need 2 small stepper motors either nema 17 or nema 23 size and about 100 n/m torque with between 1.5 and 3V/phase. You will need a 18-28 VAC power transformer with at least 96VA capacity, a bridge rectifier, some power filter caps (OR a switching power supply in the 32-40VDC range with 2-4A output).
You'll need two stepper motor drivers in the 2-4A range that can handle 32-40VDC supply.
The mechanical parts are all up to you and the design you select upon. As more of us get our prototypes up and running I'm sure the designs will start to coalesce around the most practical approaches with the fewest number of parts.

Overall budget seems to be about $400 though you can easily double that if you choose all new, off-the-shelf drivers, steppers and power supply with new linear bearings and ballscrew for the traverse.

I never saw this reply to my original post back in April. The threading system used on this forum is a little confusing, and leaves a lot to be desired (for me, at least).

Yeah I don't know why it defaults to "Hybrid Mode" (nobody I know likes that) but you can change the thread display mode buy clicking on the toolbar at the top of the thread labeled "Display Modes", then select "Linear Mode" as shown in the attached screen capture.

At the request of Elepro I'm starting this thread and coordinating this group buy.

He has 5 assembled and tested controller boards at 120 euros ($162.84 USD as of this post) each. These are not kits. You can read about the board in the other threads.

I will be taking the orders and shipping them out. The shipping is extra, but shouldn't be more than $7-10 for domestic USPS Priority mail. If you are overseas it might make more sense for Elepro to ship them. I'll be taking payments through PayPal.

I'm still working out some details, but that's it in a nut shell.

It has been interesting to see this project trying to come to fruition for nearly a year now and still only has a few people interested. You probably should have offered kits from start Elepro, as I did in the gauss meter group buy where we had 19 people buying 24 kits (if I recall).

Why don't you just offer the controller for sale for a limited time then, because it doesn't look like we will have 6 people in on this deal, and I already have motors.
