I agree, I only use HPN for Strat Single coils.
I have some HPN and HFV, both Elektrisola, and I like the sound of the HPN the best.
I like the larger HPN on Strat Neck SCs.
It has that 60s woody tones, IMO.
    I mainly use 42 & 43 SPN for Humbuckers.
I just bought 6 lbs of 43 SPN Natural that works great for overwound buckers.
You Vintage Boys probably wouldn't like it, but I do.
I have been using it for my Strat Rail Pickups, also.

Do whatever works best for Copper.
        That's what I would do.
Can you meet them at the border?

The Elektrisola PE seems to basically be the same as the old REA made PE that MWS used to carry. Which makes sense since I guess Elektrisola bought the PE division of REA. I have MWS PE from 2005 that ranges from 1.78 to 1.90ohms per foot. Most of it though is in the 1.82 ohm range. The Elekrisola wire I have is 1.84 ohms per foot which is right in line with the old MWS wire. AWC wire seems to range from 1.70 to 1.79 ohms per foot with most being around 1.74 ohms per foot. I have vintage pickup wire samples from 1.70 to 1.89 ohms per foot so the entire range is appropriate. I use lower or high ohm per foot depending upon what I'm making. So it is good to know that the Elektrisola wire is in the higher ohm per foot range.

I don't have any wire that measures that high.
I've got about 10 different 42 AWG and they run 16-17.5 Ohms per 10 feet.
What temp are you measuring your wire?

74 degrees. I measure everything with the same set up. Of course the reading is relative to the test bed which is why I measure everything the same way, 10 feet of wire, same meter, same temp..... Is all of your wire PE from REA or Elektrisola?

Elektrisola from MWS is nothing like REA used to make. REA's insulation was often quite "sticky" for one thing. I still have REA's last stuff MWS was selling before REA got bought out by Elektrisola, and I have to use low tension because the wire drags on the felt real hard. The last wire they were selling as nom/min was anything but ;-) REA never sold any nom/min as thin as what Elektrisola now makes for MWS either. The first batches that Elektrisola made for MWS was black too, but maybe some complained because it quickly changed to the brown color it is now. The wire is also dead-on the same every spool, something REA didn't really have a handle on, every spool varied and it was always a gut clenching moment opening a new box of wire, micrometer in hand, praying it was close to the same stuff I got previous order. At one point the diameter changed drastically and never went back, and my pickups suddenly got extremely bright, it was part of an episode that cause me to rethink everything I was doing at the time, so in a way it was a good thing. Elektrisola has very stringent tight methods they use and it immediately showed up in the new PE we are all using now. Its really great wire, (knock on wood).

The MWS wire I bought in 2005 and still have a bunch of is pretty slick and has the same feel running through felt as the Elektrisola. But the Elektrisola PE is a darker brown which I like. Size wise the Rea varies from .00265 to .00275 which seems reasonable. I do like the Elektrisola and I would guess that the diameter/ohms per foot similarities with the Rea wire I think is a plus. The Elektrisola wire I have is .0027.

My favorite wire back then was Essex PE, I still have the tail end of a spool I saved for sentimental reasons ;-) Then there was the short lived Korean wire that Pat at Guitar Jones sold, but they were ten pound spools and kept getting banged up in shipping, but it was nice to have something very different than what you get in the US. Still have some of that left. I saved every batch of wire off every vintage pickup I restored from day one and still save that stuff. Have a ton of AWC wire, from 2003, some day some weird project will come up where I can use it. One good score I got a few years ago was a 13 pound spool of 44 HF that had been on Ebay for 9 months that no one wanted, I emailed him an offer and he went for it. Will probably last the rest of my life ;-)

Sorry, I meant to say its a 13lb. spool of SINGLE formvar not heavy. That wire was used alot in DeArmond and Kay and Ricky pickups, I use it in some orginal designed pickups, so, no its not real useful but it does have good uses when you need it.

I bought a 1-1/2 lb spool of red Elektrisola 44SPN back a couple of Months ago from Remington.
Just to have when I need small wire.
So far I haven't used any of it.
13 lbs of 44 FV should reach around the Earth and back!

The thing is that its almost impossible to find 44 formvar, I got it for pretty cheap because no one wanted to buy it. Try finding some 44 gauge PE if you want to look for the impossible ;-) Rickenbacker used to use that alot, don't know if they still do...

With me they are lucky to get the 44 SPN.
I have had a couple of rewind situations where I could have used the 44.
I didn't have any so I got by with some small gauge 43.
I have the 42, & 43 PE, and HFV for the regular rewinds.
