          That is the truth.
I've had several different young players try to convince me that the later gibson pickups with the new PAF sticker, are real PAFs.
They tell me what a good deal they got on a real gibson PAF!
It may be a 2000+ model

no ones reading the thread- its not Gibson that did it it was Ron Ellis- remember allen hamel? Like I said i bet it was a dealer order so they used custom pickups from a maker. anyone can have metals analysed- its not that much $ and old broken bits of PAF's are out there for little $, i have a box full but given DS his dues just analysing doesnt do it- you have to figure out all the variables which takes alot of effort. I have seen too many guys concentrate- well lets say they cant see the forest for the trees sceneario. Anymore there are too many self proclaimed experts and soo much BS that the guys stating the BS dont even know its BS or pretend not to but thats another thread. Do a youtube search on the matter of these pickups and youll see it or dont

So the question must be now, did Ron Ellis have the metal bits analyzed or what? Gibson are just bullsteining?

Who the hell knows. One thing I noticed, that when I would sell on Ebay, which was rarely, I'd come back and find other makers selling there using text from my last sales. I was extremely lucky to have the metallurgy work done for me for free, along with being mentored and educated in the process, over 5-6 years. It would have costs thousands of dollars I never could have afforded, it included a 40 year span of Gibson history as well, you really have to see the whole picture to know "why" and "how." Its not likely anyone ever did this or ever will, really. In the beginning I thought it was going to be all so simple and the first things I learned were. But then I'd ask another question and another door would open into a whole new perspective and knowledge. We also looked at all the supplier's parts and many commercial pickups claiming to be repros, which weren't. You really have to learn how to "see" and not fall victim to magical thinking or believe anything you read on the internet. Its still an ongoing trip, every one that comes in for restoration is a story book for me....

Who the hell knows lol, exactly. Never believe a word you read on the internet or anywhere I say, newspapers, TV, books. I'd just like to be able to build a humbucker that is vintage vibe in tone, I'm not interested in anything gainy past what you get from a vintage Marshall circuit turned UP with none of those pesky pedals. The Paf's bobbins were higher? than the parts available today I've read but how much higher no one is telling, I'm sure that has a good deal of influence, A2 mag, PE wound by machine. Geez it doesn't sound that hard does it but it is for a hacker butcher like myself. I'm working on making a couple of higher bobbins to see how that sounds but apart from that, what the hey?

My fav is a 9-9.4k bridge.
Wind the screw bobbin less than the slug coil and your set.
                    Use a A2 Mag.
I have wound a bunch of them, & everyone likes them.

Thanks T, like I said, I'm working on a higher bobbin and want to go about 8k at the most, who knows how the higher bobbins will sound but I want that single coil P-90 sort of thing from a hummer, I suppose brightness could be an issue, if so I'll put more wire on em. Built an SG and want the perfect bridge pickup, I dunno, I'm set on the higher bobbins, might have em done pretty soon. Bodgy at first though just to hear em.

Try EVERYTHING. You learn WHAT to do by what DIDN'T work ;-) As far as how hot PAF's ever got, the hottest one I had in here was 9.2K, another one from '61.
