Has anybody tried to make a pickup like this?

What would be biggest cons of this?

Looking at the Duncan Duckbucker (photo!) seems that Duckbucker is followin P-Bass more closely, must be for a reason.

Its a split design & humcanceling with more of a single coil tone

As you can see you can't get much wire on the coils when using the traditional form of magnets inline ,I built one with offset coils & I still had issues so I scraped it

        Yes. Yes I have.

        The biggest challenges are geometric.

Lots of Bass pickups, especially Jazz bass pickups, are made this way.

The Duckbucker actually has two full length coils, but with off set poles.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

I'm confused. Is the photo in the OP not a Duckbucker?
And what does Duck have to do with Teles? Shouldn't it be a Stevebucker?

The other main problem with these for guitar is the volume and tone drop at the D and G string gap. One way out is to alternate all the poles [N-S-N] [S-N-S] or to have all the poles same up i.e. [N-N-N] [N-N-N].

I also thought the was some sort of phase issue with this kind of pickup in anywhere besides the bridge position ,the wide vibrating string would be pickup by the other coil ...I think read that here somewhere

If the coils are wound to be humbucking, and all the poles face the same way, the two halves of the pickup will be electrically out of phase. Does that matter?

                  I'm so confused,

That has never been a problem for me, nor do I see why it would ever be. If you have them humbucking with the signal in phase then there shouldn't be any problem. So, [S-S-S] Counter clockwise and [N-N-N] clockwise.

                        No. This is a Duckbucker:

Duncan does not make any split coil pickups.

It's a Duckbucker because it quacks in the 2 and 4 positions on a Strat.

OK, I think I get it now. The OP showed a photo of *his own* pup, and was asking why SD didn't do likewise....

I thought that Duckbucker is a split coil pickup.

Thank you everybody. Thank you David.

I haven't listened to it yet.
