  • Wire Manufacturers recommended winding tension ?

Have manufacturers recommended winding tension changed over the years ?
Browsing through the pages here ,about proper tension & I keep reading in many threads that states 30 grams of tension & a little more is a good tension for 42 gauge wire
    like these

& IMO I think 30 grams of tension would probably be a little too tight or the max tension I would ever use for pickups
    http://www.mwswire.com/pdf_files/mws...ook/page36.pdf
MWS recommends between 17 to 22 grams
Essex recommends only the max @27 grams

I see Elektrisola has a recommended tension of 34 grams
    NEMA MW1000C metric

How would this translate to hand tension,, This might sound silly but could you tie something that weight 30 grams to the end of 42awg and let it slip thru your fingers to get a feel for it. Has anyone tried this..

Not really the same thing because speed = drag. "free falling" won't feel the same as 500RPM's.

Im measuring my tension with a dynometer
& hands are not pinching wire but I test everything by pulling wire through my tensioner & I know how much tension is required
