That is exactly right, here is a pic of the way they did the 8 string bobbin using the 6 string parts. The pole pieces looked for all the world like sawed off nails, and they soldered the start wire to a sawed off brass screw.

Yeah, pretty bad engineering there, thanks for the info, wound 42 PE to 6.05k, and sounds great.

Actually I saw a post awhile back at the BeatGear Cavern forum that RIC has been using stainless steel instead of brass for that inner screw and coils are shorting because its problematic soldering to stainless steel....

Here's the bottom with the rubber magnet removed.

This looks surprisingly like a slightly wider SCPB. No wonder that modder on TB had such success using multiple SCPBs in the right spots to get a Ric-oid vibe.

no one knows much about the older pickups at Rickenbacker that I have ever talked to- they don't have any reason to know though.

I want to say that my old Bakelite steel with the white plastic plates had a DCR of 3K (maybe less) -I just remember being quite surprised at how low it read vs. how hot the signal was. It had to be some thick wire because it was a pretty big coil.
