I prefer this as it was the way it was originally done & I'm a bit of a traditionalist (gasp) - but also for the functionality.
For P90s I keep the braided lead wire in place in test guitars. Using those solder lugs allows me to swap pickups in and out by only unsoldering/soldering the hookup wire to the lead and lug/tag - makes it a very fast procedure & there's no alligator clips, wire nuts or anything else.
It also makes it very easy to swap soapbar and dogear base plates to test in different guitars - because nothing's soldered to them.
