  • is it a big deal if ( wire question)

I want to add say 50 turns to a coil, can I just soder the wires together without adding any insulation or such and just wind away.. This is just for testing.

I'd put some tape over the area of original winding where the joint will be or coat the the union with nail polish or lacquer just to make sure that it doesn't cut into the insulation of the previous winding

If it is a prototype and your not going to sell it, I have done several times.
Never had a problem with it.
I have sprayed a little Krylon clear on it, after the splice and let it dry a little while.
      Good Luck,

but will it do anything to the tone, I can set the soder end away from the 50 windings and once I figure out if that is the tone I am looking for I will rewind from scrach.

            You will be ok.
If you do enough winding, splicing now and then goes with winding.

This is the way I splice without pre sanding the wire
Tie a knot (A bigger knot makes it easier to see) ,joining your wire (this works better with some tension on the wire to make sure the wire don't stay stuck to the iron ) now just SCUFF the knot with some sand paper, solder & tape continue winding
I can do these same steps without sanding poly wire but it sometimes melts the wire
